Gina was born and raised in the South Bronx, NY. At the age of 5 she was gifted a piano and lessons by her grandfather. During her middle school years she joined the latin drum corp “El Primer Grupo de Batuteras Cheerleaders y su Banda,” where she played the drums. She moved to Wellesley, MA for high school where she played a variety of instruments including the sousaphone in the marching band before becoming the drum major in her senior year. Gina took a short hiatus from formal music instruction during her undergraduate years at Williams College in Williamstown, MA. Upon graduating from Williams College, she pursued a career as an educator in Lenox, MA. On one fateful night a few of her co-workers took her out on the town to a small club in Pittsfield, MA called La Cocina. That particular evening they were hosting an open mic night competition. After serval rounds of tequila, her co-workers dared Gina to sign up to sing. After a heavy dose of liquid encouragement Gina accepted the challenge even though she asserted she wasn’t a singer. Gina sang, a cappella, the only song she could remember the lyrics to … “Mercedes Benz.” To the surprise of everyone in the club, Gina delivered a performance that brought the house to their feet and won $75 in the night’s competition! Within a few months of that performance Gina was approaches by a local guitarist to form the acoustic duo The Siblings. After a short while in the duo, she formed the acoustic folk/funk band Cole-Connection.

In the summer of 1999 Gina was invited to perform in the Williamstown Theatre Festival production of A Raisin In The Sun. That production featured the acting of Ruben Santiago Hudson, Viola Davis, Kimberly Elise and Gloria Foster. Gina was cast as a gospel blues singer. Nearing the end of the show’s run, Ruben Santiago Hudson gave her a cd collection entitled “Men Are Like Streetcars.” He told her that her voice was well-suited for the blues and urged her to take that musical direction. She heeded his advice, and asked members of Cole-Connection to start performing blues music.

25 years later, Gina is more widely known as the lead singer, founder, songwriter, and cigarbox guitar show house of the 2019 International Blues Challenge finalist, Misty Blues. The band performs original and traditional blues with hints of jazz, soul, funk, and tent revival gospel since 1999. Gina/Misty Blues have recorded 16 albums with tracks featuring artists like Charles Neville, Eric Gales, Joe Louis Walker, Justin Johnson, and Kat Riggins. They have performed extensively throughout the Northeast and have toured the continental U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom. Misty Blues has been nominated for a number of Independent Blues Music Awards, and they were bestowed the honor of being the 2021 CFAB Music Realm Entertainer of the Year. Their original music is regularly aired on SiriusXM Bluesville, and they have had broad international airplay, as evidenced by chart standings on the Roots Music Report. In 2024, they had the distinct honor of having a song they released used in a presidential campaige ad.

As Gina leads Misty Blues into the next 25 years, she is venturing out with her first solo album. “Unequivocally Blue” is slated for release in 2025.
